Special Features

Extended Version: The Blu-ray edition of Cowboys & Aliens includes two versions of the film, a 119-minute theatrical cut and a 135-minute extended version. The extended version is significantly longer but, sadly, it isn't significantly better.

U-Control Picture In Picture (HD): Universal's latest U-Control PiP experience is a tad spotty (content only appears on 12 of the disc's 20 chapters), but it kicks off a wealth of supplemental features with interviews, behind-the-scenes footage and other material fans will enjoy.

Audio Commentary: Director Jon Favreau applies a light, enthusiastic touch to his commentary -- recent criticism be damned -- and strikes a nice balance between development details, casting decisions, and the film's biggest, baddest set pieces, alien attacks and FX extravaganzas.

Igniting the Sky: The Making of Cowboys & Aliens (HD, 40 minutes): This six-part behind-the-scenes documentary is extensive and entertaining, even if it never really solves the burning mystery of the hour: how is it that Cowboys & Aliens didn't amount to one of the best summer blockbusters in years? Segments include "Finding the Story," "A Call to Action," "Absolution," "Outer-Space Icon" and "The Scope of the Spectacle."

Conversations with Jon Favreau (SD, 80 minutes): Favreau hosts a series of lengthy pow wows with Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, and Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer.
